PARTNERSHIP IN WOMEN’S MINISTRY WITH MOORE THEOLOGICAL COLLEGE

The Rev. Dr John Woodhouse Jane Tooher Rev. Tara Thornley

In 1856 Moore Theological College first began training men in Christian education and ministry. Moore Theological College has always had a focus on academic Christian excellence.

The aim of the Integration Agreement between The Anglican Deaconess Institution Sydney Limited and Moore Theological College of 2007 was to establish and securely fund three female Faculty positions (or the equivalent) and support women’s training within Moore Theological College. Under the Agreement, Rev. Tara Thornley has been appointed the Dean of Women and Ms Jane Tooher commenced in August 2009.

The historic property at 28 Carillion Avenue, Newtown, is now leased to Moore Theological College as a residence for women students. The administration of women’s residential accommodation and chaplaincy groups for women were previously undertaken by Mary Andrews College. The Agreement with Moore will result in the enhanced training of both men and women; and a higher profile for women’s ministry more generally.
